GAZA CITY – The humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to deepen, as a recent Israeli airstrike on one of the few functioning hospitals in the region led to the tragic death of a child, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
The strike, which hit al-Ahli Hospital in northern Gaza, has been condemned by international voices, including Qatar and Saudi Arabia, who labeled it a “heinous crime.” The hospital, a critical refuge for civilians amidst the ongoing war, suffered severe structural damage, leaving patients, doctors, and displaced families scrambling for safety.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus confirmed the death, stating:
“A child died due to disruption of care… The hospital’s emergency room, laboratory, X-ray machines, and pharmacy were destroyed. 40 critical patients couldn’t be moved.”
Photographs from the scene show the hospital in ruins, steel twisted, concrete shattered, and iron doors ripped from their hinges.
The Israeli military claimed the strike targeted a Hamas “command and control center” within the hospital, a claim strongly denied by Palestinian officials. Gaza’s civil defense agency noted the attack came just minutes after a warning to evacuate.
Meanwhile, another airstrike in Deir el-Balah claimed the lives of seven people, including six brothers, further compounding the grief and destruction.
