New Delhi: In a major step toward bolstering India-Africa relations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday announced a USD 200 million defence credit line to support the modernization of Angola’s armed forces. The announcement came following comprehensive bilateral talks with Angolan President Joao Manuel Goncalves Laurenco, who is currently on a four-day visit to India.

The discussions, held in New Delhi, focused on enhancing cooperation in key areas such as digital public infrastructure, defence collaboration, space technology, and capacity building. PM Modi emphasized that President Laurenco’s visit marks a pivotal moment for India-Angola relations and further deepens India’s strategic partnership with the African continent.

“I am pleased to announce India’s USD 200 million defence credit line to support the modernisation of Angola’s defence forces,” said PM Modi in his media address. He also highlighted India’s willingness to assist Angola in the maintenance, overhaul, and supply of defence platforms.

Beyond defence, the two leaders agreed to strengthen partnerships in healthcare, fertilisers, critical minerals, and diamond processing sectors crucial for mutual economic growth. PM Modi further reiterated India’s unwavering stance against terrorism, stating, “We are committed to taking firm and decisive action against terrorists and those who support them.”
